  • Kika: Leading the World in Interpersonal Communication
    November 20,2017

Kika started developing the input method in 2013 and later launched it during the second half of 2014. Compared to other input methods, Kika offers something different by offering stickers and fonts. Sogou is known for its auto-suggestions and word databases. Kika has both of these features, but also has its own unique selling point - emojis and stickers.

It will be difficult to find an app that can compare to Kika’s unique functionalities and value propositions. As a cross-platform app with an engagement rate of 120 times per user per day, input methods should interact with every app in the phone as well as record every text, sticker, and emoji that are inputted by the user - which becomes a part of the user text database.

For such massive amounts of data, humans can’t be relied upon to conduct text collection and analysis to implement system upgrades. AI has a great potential to impact this market. Since Kika launched, it introduced a mechanical learning method to improve the entire input method in terms of text and voice input.

Text is the main source to obtain user text patterns from input methods. At the same time, Kika integrates voice recognition by using a specialized team. Kika can interpret a voice message into international phonetic alphabets. In order to interact with different voices, it depends upon varying human scenarios.

Building a bridge for interpersonal communication

Kika supports 150 languages worldwide. Currently there are about 7,000 languages in the world, and about 2,000 of these languages are written languages, which represents a vast market opportunity for Kika to explore this massive amount of untapped data. Among these countries, currently we have only actualized the basic input. Kika still has a long way to go in order to actualize smarter input methods, to better understand different users, and serve users of various languages.

Kika holds a very positive outlook towards newly developed countries and their future development. This includes India, Brazil, as well as South East Asian countries such as Indonesia. Right now, their contribution towards the company revenue is quite low, but they may become the next main market following the U.S. and European markets in the next 3 to 5 years.

Kika uniquely positions itself in the AI industry with the input method as their entry point into the communication platform. The feature is not about replacing humans with machines, but rather to act as the bridge of interpersonal communication. Kika will continue to focus on its input method, until there is another main channel of communication. However, the company’s main objective will be to improve the efficiency of communication through AI innovation.
